Simon Semere

Counselling Intern

Hello, my name is Simon (he/him). I am a counselling intern and am currently a student in the Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology at City University. I bring years of frontline experience supporting individuals navigating through substance abuse, complex mental health struggles, and housing instability. Working in this space has taught me that trust is built slowly, and that people don't need to have things figured out before they're worth helping.

Starting counselling can feel like a big step, especially if you are not used to expressing your vulnerabilities or your past experiences with support systems haven't felt safe or genuine. I aim to offer a space that's steady and honest rather than clinical or distant, somewhere you can bring the parts of your story that feel messy, unresolved, or hard to say.

I welcome working with clients from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences, including anxiety, depression, self-esteem, stress management, life transitions, grief and loss, relationships, trauma, and those who've felt unseen or judged by systems. I use a person-centred, harm-reduction approach, offering a safe, empathetic space and a commitment to working with people as they are, without judgement about where they've been or what brought them in. I am interested in relational dynamics (how we connect, rupture, and repair) and enjoy working with adolescents, couples, and families as well as individuals.

I am 2SLGBTQ+ affirming and culturally sensitive. I am located on Treaty 7 territory in Mohkinstsis (Calgary) and am currently accepting new clients across the boundaries of Treaties 6, 7, and 8, known as Alberta.
