Marshall Wilensky, Ph.D., R.Psych, is an EMDRIA approved consultant and trainer and has been facilitating EMDR trainings in Canada and the US for 20 years. He specializes in the treatment of trauma and has more than 12,000 hours of experience with EMDR. He has been endorsed as a board certified expert in traumatic stress by the American Academy of Experts in Traumatic Stress and was an EMDR Institute Facilitator from 1996 - 2006.
Marshall also has a private practice in Vancouver, BC and has taught Counselling Psychology and Clinical Psychology for Simon Fraser University, the British Columbia School of Professional Psychology, and the University of British Columbia.

This course is approved by the Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing International Association (EMDRIA) and serves as a pathway to certification as a Basic EMDR Trained Therapist

Eligibility Requirements
The following are eligibility requirements (prerequisites) for EMDR Basic Training:

Completion of a Master’s degree or higher in an established mental health discipline (e.g., counselling, psychology, social work, marriage and family therapy, psychiatric nursing, psychotherapy, psychiatry)

An acceptable level of membership in a professional regulatory body with a code of ethics

Training participants understand that they may only practice therapy when clients are covered by the practitioner’s own professional liability insurance and/or the professional liability insurance of an established agency or company

Course Objectives
Participants learn to use EMDR appropriately and effectively in a variety of applications. Such use is based on understanding the theoretical basis of EMDR, safety issues, integration with a treatment plan, and supervised practice.
Course Design
The course follows the current recommended curriculum of the Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing International Association (EMDRIA).
Training components:

Lecture, discussion, demonstration, video (20 hours)

Supervised practice (20 hours)

Consultation (10 hours, online in group format; consultation can also be acquired privately from an EMDRIA Approved Consultant)
Learning objectives:

to understand the research and theoretical positions on EMDR

to use the basic 8-phase EMDR protocol, effectively and safely, and to adapt it to special situations and populations

to be familiar with variations on the basic protocol for special populations

to understand legal and ethical considerations in the use of EMDR
Topics:

Review of the research on EMDR; discussion of controversy/social psychology of innovation

Psychology of trauma and diagnosis of Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

Theoretical explanations for EMDR; accelerated information processing; alternate explanations; brain research; caveats

The 8 phases of EMDR treatment

EMDR and special populations.

*Please note that Monday, February 17, 2020, is a holiday in Alberta (Family Day). Training dates were chosen to minimize the number of days away from work for as many participants as possible.

A non-refundable $600 deposit is required at the time of registration. The remaining balance must be paid prior to the first day of training.
Cost includes instruction, supervised practice, consultation, all textbooks and manuals.
Cost also includes coffee, tea, and snacks (including vegan, gluten-free, and dairy-free options) provided during training.
